Corydon, In., - Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) has been providing books to children in Harrison County, Indiana for five years. To celebrate this program and the years it has brought “imagination” to community children, the Harrison County Community Foundation will hold an event at the YMCA of Harrison County (198 Jenkins Court Northeast, Corydon) on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 2 p.m.
The Madcap Puppets of Cincinnati will perform “When You Wish Upon a Fish.” Snacks will be served and members of the Harrison County Public Library Youth Staff will work with the children on special crafts beginning at 1 p.m. and again after the show. This is a free, public event but anyone planning to attend should RSVP to Sarah Travis at the HCCF office at 812-738-6668 or saraht@hccfindiana.org.
The Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) began working with The Dollywood Foundation and many local agencies in fall 2007 to bring Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) to local preschool children. Every child who is registered in the program receives one free, age appropriate book per month from the time they are born until age 5. Harrison County children began receiving books in the mail in January 2008.
“Since bringing this wonderful program to Harrison County 3,177 of our Harrison County children have received 98,274 books!,” said Julie Timberlake, HCCF Director of Programs. “The feedback we receive from parents about how much their children enjoy receiving these books every month is heartwarming.”
The Harrison County Youth Philanthropy Council will participate in the event and collect food items for the Souper Bowl of Caring. There is no charge for the event but any family that brings at least 10 non-perishable food items/canned goods will have their name put in a drawing for door prizes.
Anyone interested in receiving more information about the event is encouraged to contact the Harrison County Community Foundation at 812-738-6668 or visit www.hccfindiana.org. Parents who wish to enroll their children may do so at the event or visit www.imaginationlibrary.com. They may also register on site at the Harrison County Public Library or Harrison County Community Foundation.
